Pressable started WordPress hosting in 2010, but Automattic later acquired the company. If Automattic sounds familiar to you, they also own WordPress.com, Jetpack, and WooCommerce. Having a seamlessly integrated WordPress experience with Jetpack and WooCommerce excited us – if you already use Jetpack and WooCommerce, why not use their WordPress hosting?
In this review post, we will detail Pressable’s services, how they performed on our performance benchmarks and speed tests, and our overall ranking of their web hosting services.
Pressable WordPress General Features
Pressable Features | Is this good? | |
---|---|---|
Support Hours | Yes, 24/7 support via live chat. | ✅ 24/7 support is pretty standard and a must-have in our opinion. Some providers also offer 24/7 phone support. |
Server Locations | Three locations in the United States and one in the Netherlands | ✅ Plus additional edge locations through Pressable's CDN. |
Uptime Guarantee | Yes, 100% guarantee, except for scheduled maintenance. | ✅ Most hosts offer at least a 99.9% uptime guarantee, but 100% is rare. |
SSL Included | Yes, Let's Encrypt. | ✅ Free SSL is standard and a must-have for website. |
Money-Back Guarantee | Yes, 30 days. | ✅ 30 days is standard across web hosts. |
Email Hosting | Not included, but Titan Professional Email is available as an add-on. | ❌ Included email hosting means you don't have to pay for a separate email plan. You can upgrade to a 10GB Titan email plan for $3.50/month. |
Plan Lengths | Monthly or annually. | ✅ Annual plans come with two free months. |
Backups Available | Yes, daily backups retained for 30 days. | ✅ 30 days is quite standard and good. Pressable also notes they backup the database every hour. |
Site Migrations | Yes, within 24 hours. | ✅ Having the host transfer the website is best to prevent any problems and stress. |
Firewall | Yes, Web Application Firewall (WAF). | ✅ Firewall is crucial and standard to be included among web hosts. |
Malware Detection | Yes. | ✅ Malware detection is very important and also standard. |
Pressable includes a solid pack of features on par with the top-tier WordPress hosts. One unique feature of Pressable is its 100% uptime guarantee. Many WordPress hosts offer a 99.9% or higher uptime guarantee, but very few offer 100%. Pressable notes that its uptime guarantee does not apply to “scheduled maintenance,” so keep that in mind. Yet, we believe Pressable’s 100% uptime guarantee says more about its confidence in its services than the actual time difference between a 99.9% and a 100% guarantee (around 43 minutes over a 30-day period).
Note that Pressable does not bundle email hosting with its plans. However, Pressable offers a monthly upgrade to Titan Professional Email. If you have a separate email plan through Google as part of Google Workspace, you don’t need to worry about email hosting – Google is your email host. But if you host your own email server, you must buy a separate email hosting plan from another provider. This adds cost and complexity to your WordPress setup, so keep that in mind.

Regardless of the size of your business, it is important to look professional. Having a custom email domain adds to your professionalism. Which looks more professional to you: mybusiness@gmail.com or info@mybusiness.com? If you said info@mybusiness.com, then we agree with you and that is why email hosting is important. Email hosting allows you to have your own email domain instead of relying on Gmail or another free email provider.
If you have Google Workspace, you probably have your own email domain. In this case, Google is your email host. But if you are just using an @gmail.com email address, it is time to upgrade!
Pressable WordPress Optimization Features
Pressable Features | Is this good? | |
---|---|---|
Image Optimization | No | ❌ You want image optimization to ensure faster page loading, but this can be achieved with WordPress plug-ins as well. |
CDN Access | Yes, Pressable CDN. | ✅ We expect CDNs to be included WordPress plans except for lowest tier. |
CSS/Javascript Minification | No | ❌ There are WordPress plugins that will minify CSS and Javascript for you. |
Staging Website allowed? | Yes. | ✅ Staging websites allow you to test changes to a website before going live. |
HTTP versions | HTTP/2 | ❌ HTTP/3 is the latest version. |
Data Compression | Yes, GZIP and Brotli. | ✅ Brotli is the latest data compression algorithm for fast website loading. |
Full Page Caching | Yes | ✅ Full page caching speeds up initial loading times. |
Pressable includes a solid array of optimization features. We like that Pressable includes its CDN with all plans, although it is not as robust as Cloudflare’s CDN. While Cloudflare offers over 260 edge points around the world, Pressable only has 28 as of October 2023. Most are concentrated in North America and Europe, leaving only one edge point each in South America and Africa.
Read More: What is a CDN?
Additionally, Pressable includes a separate Edge Caching feature that you would enable in place of a CDN. Pressable specifically states to only turn on Edge Caching if you turn off Pressable’s CDN. The difference between the two is that Edge Caching caches both the page and static assets like images, while Pressable’s CDN only caches static assets. Thus, if you have a site that mainly remains the same – such as a blog or a general business site – you should use Pressable’s Edge Caching instead of the CDN. For our testing, we used Edge Caching instead of the CDN for Pressable.

Pressable offers many plan options, which we found a bit overwhelming initially. We split up Pressable’s plans into the low and mid-tier plans, as shown in this section, and higher-tier plans, shown in the next section. The only differences among the plans are storage space, number of monthly visits, and the number of managed websites. Performance and features are the same across all plans. This helps decrease the confusion over what plan to get because you only need to focus on your storage, visitors, and number of managed websites requirements.

We also confirmed with Pressable support that Pressable’s plans are based on unique visitors, not total visitors. We discovered this through our GTMetrix testing and the presence of a “track.js” file that kept loading. The track.js file sees if the visitor has been to your page previously through the use of cookies. That Pressable tracks unique visitors is good to know for websites that have a lot of return visitors.

These higher-tier plans from Pressable are ideal for Agencies and other companies requiring many resources or managing many WordPress sites. Again, performance is the same across all Pressable plans, so it comes down to your resource requirements. Finally, we did not include plans Pressable’s Business 100 plan for 100 websites or above, but they exist. And if you need even more resources, Pressable will work with you to create a custom solution to your needs.

Pressable WordPress Performance Tests
As with all of our web hosting reviews, we tested Pressable using our test WordPress website to see how Pressable performs in real life. We ran all of these tests using the Personal Managed Hosting plan, which is our recommended WordPress hosting plan for one website. There are three components: Google Core Web Vitals, GTMetrix Performance, and worldwide load testing. The results are below, and you can read our detailed testing specifications on this page.
Google Core Web Vitals – Lighthouse Scores
First Contentful Paint (FCP)
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)
Total Blocking Time (TBT)
Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)
Speed Index (SI)
Total Performance Score
Read More: What do these scores mean?
Google likes fast-loading websites because they provide amazing visitor experiences. These scores show how fast and how smoothly a website loads. The better your score is, the greater chance that Google will increase the search ranking of your page, especially if your competitors score poorly. Google prefers everyone to score 90-100, while 50-89 is ok. A score below 50 is poor.
While part of these scores will depend on how efficient your website is, part of these scores also depend on how fast your web host provider is. Additionally, if your web host provider offers optimization features such as minification, then that will improve your score. You can learn more about these metrics on this Google web page.
Pressable performs okay on the Google Core Web Vitals, but not like some other top-tier providers that scored in the 90s for the overall performance score. The scores above are not the actual Lighthouse values but the ones Lighthouse assigns to each metric. We chose to display these scores instead of the actual values to make comparing scores across web host providers easier. The LCP score is low, which brings down the overall performance score. You can see the raw Lighthouse values in the table below.
Lighthouse Metric | Raw Value | Lighthouse Score |
---|---|---|
First Contentful Paint (FCP) | 1.7 seconds | 92 |
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) | 4.8 seconds | 29 |
Total Blocking Time (TBT) | 0 ms (miliseconds) | 100 |
Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) | 0 | 100 |
Speed Index (SI) | 2.1 seconds | 99 |
GTMetrix Performance
Read More: What do these scores mean?
As mentioned above, Google likes fast-loading websites because they provide amazing visitor experiences. GTMetrix analyzes and scores web pages using mostly the same criteria as Google Lighthouse. However, GTMetrix allows you to customize the scoring based on location and type of mobile device. GTMetrix also weighs criteria differently than Google itself, providing another opinion on how the user experiences your website loading.
We used three scores from GTMetrix that match Lighthouse for comparison: FCP, SI, and LCP. We then added the Time to First Byte (TTFB) because many people are interested in this score. Finally, we also added the total fully loaded time to measure a complete loading.Based on GTMetrix’s documentation, there are how the scores measure:
- TTFB: Good is less than 800ms and bad is above 1800ms.
- FCP: Good is less than 0.9 seconds and bad is above 1.6 seconds.
- SI: Good is less than 1.3 seconds and bad is above 2.3 seconds.
- LCP: Good is less than 1.2 seconds and bad is above 2.4 seconds.
- Total Load Time: GTMetrix doesn’t have a score chart for this, but based on our own testing, less than three seconds is good and over five seconds is bad.
You can learn more about these metrics on this GTMetrix web page.
Pressable’s FCP, SI, and LCP scores are extremely fast! They are on par with top-tier performers like Rocket.net and WPX. However, Pressable did not do as well on the fully loaded times, especially for a top-tier website. Most locations had fully loaded times under three seconds, which is our cutoff for what we consider acceptable using our test website. There wasn’t a geographical disparity as North America and Asia locations performed well. On the other hand, laggards such as Dubai, Singapore, and Johannesburg had fully loaded times of 4-5 seconds.
But what really hurt Pressable’s fully loaded times is the loading of “track.js.” We found out that this JavaScript file tracks visitors to your website to see if they are a new or returning visitor. Since Pressable only bills unique visitors, Pressable needs to know if it is a new visitor. But this file took a while to load, which delayed anything that came after that file. For example, the header logo and favicon loaded last on our test website due to lazy loading. Thus, that means the header logo was heavily delayed in showing up because it had to wait for track.js to fully load.
Loading track.js is unfortunate because Pressable scored very well with GTMetrix on the Core Web Vitals. You would have to analyze your website’s waterfall to see how track.js affects the loading order of assets to determine how much of an impact it may have on your website. Otherwise, Pressable did very well on the Google Core Web Vitals: FCP, SI, and LCP.
Server Location | Time to First Byte (TTFB) | First Contentful Paint (FCP) | Speed Index (SI) | Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) | Fully Loaded Time |

Worldwide Load Testing

Pressable performed extremely well on our Worldwide Load Testing. All locations except two had response times of less than 100ms, which is our standard for top-tier websites. In fact, so many locations had response times in the single digits, which is extremely fast. The only two locations that had response times of more than 100ms were Dubai and Israel. Yet, both still had amazing response times of 207ms and 116ms, respectively.

Our Pressable Review Recommendation
Our overall review is that Pressable is a solid mid to high-tier WordPress hosting provider. In addition to offering many standard features, Pressable is unique because it is the only provider from our tests to offer a 100% uptime guarantee except for scheduled maintenance. Instead of comparing a 99.9% vs. 100% uptime guarantee, we instead focus on the confidence Pressable has in its product to be able to state 100% uptime. That is awesome!
Pressable’s performance is solid, comparable on Google Core Web Vitals to other providers such as Rocket.net or WPX. We believe Pressable’s performance would be even better with some tweaking to eliminate bloated code Pressable add-ons through plugins. On the other hand, Pressable is not as expensive as the fastest WordPress hosts, so we feel Pressable’s value is quite good comparing performance to price.
