AAWP Plugin Features and Functionality

The core function of AAWP is to deliver Amazon product information to your website via Amazon’s API (PA-API) instead of you having to use Amazon’s SiteStripe. Amazon’s API allows much greater product detail and customization than SiteStripe – which is being discontinued on December 31, 2023 – and you must use the API to display product pricing per Amazon’s rules. And instead of having to pay your web developer a ton of money to integrate Amazon’s API into your website, you can buy AAWP instead for a fraction of the cost. This last part is why we purchased the plug-in!

More importantly, you can create beautiful Amazon ads using the AAWP plugin, which boosts conversion rate and affiliate sales. AAWP allows several customizations for each Amazon product with desktop and mobile-friendly product ads. While you can pay a web developer to create this functionality as part of your WordPress theme, it is far easier to buy the plugin.

We also appreciate AAWP’s built-in customizations for each product ad. You can customize the product title, description, image (you can choose any product image, not just the first image on Amazon), background color, and even the style and color of the “Buy on Amazon.com” button. For example, I tend to change the product title to a shorter, simplified product title, as product titles on Amazon can often be a large mouthful. Your readers can quickly understand the product by making it more straightforward – as in the example below.

Another fantastic way to use the plugin is to show Bestseller Lists or “New Releases” Lists. Instead of choosing specific products, you can tell AAWP you want to display the bestsellers or new releases for a specific product keyword on Amazon. Not only will AAWP automatically display up to 10 bestsellers or new releases for the keyword you chose – you specify how many products you want to display – but it will keep the list up-to-date as these products change. This is awesome for keywords that often change or for affiliate marketing listicles about the “Best _____” products.

Finally, you can also create beautiful Product Comparison Tables using AAWP. The tables look better on desktops and tablets than on mobile, but you are trying to pack a lot of information into a confined space. I prefer using the individual product ads shown above, but tables are fantastic for comparing several products easily.

How to Use the AAWP Plugin on WordPress

What I love about the AAWP plugin is that you can customize each product block through Shortcode attributes or by using the WordPress block editor to customize the options. I prefer using the Shortcode attributes as it is easier to set the settings I want and then save them as a WordPress pattern to replicate them throughout the site. However, editing product information through the block editor options is the easiest way for many users to use the AAWP plugin.

Using the AAWP Plugin through the WordPress Block Editor

After installing the AAWP Plugin, you can access its features through the WordPress Block Editor. Just go to add a new block and select AAWP, or type in /aawp to insert an AAWP block. Once inserted, AAWP will ask you what kind of Amazon product ad you want to place.

Once you select a type of product ad, you’ll find all of the options on the right sidebar. Note that if you know the ASIN (Amazon’s unique product identifier), you can enter it. Yet what is incredible is that if you don’t know the ASIN, you don’t have to search for it on Amazon first. You can search Amazon within the plugin’s options and select your desired product.

The one exception to the right sidebar is the Comparison Table option. You have to make a Comparison Table in the plugin settings in the WordPress Admin area and then choose which Comparison Table you want in the block editor. How to Use AAWP Plugin Using WordPress Shortcodes?

Although using AAWP through WordPress Block Editor is quite easy, I believe it is even easier to use shortcodes instead. By using shortcodes, I can quickly add in new product ads using the customizations I already want by saving the shortcodes as Pattern Blocks. After I enter the new Pattern Block, I select “Detach Pattern” to ensure I can edit the product information without modifying the original pattern.

The shortcode above easily creates an Amazon single product box, as shown below.

At first, I had to learn the various options for each type of product ad – single product, Bestseller list, etc… – and then learn the different customization options. The shortcode documentation provided by AAWP used to be excellent, but since they redesigned their website, the Shortcode documentation has been lacking. While you can find some codes on this help page, below is a small list of AAWP shortcode options to help you get started:

• [amazon] is the generic shortcode to start an AAWP block. Always add [/amazon] afterward to end the block, as shown in the code above. If you forget, you will get bizarre formatting.
• [amazon box="ASIN"] gets you single product boxes, like the ones I have shown above. [amazon link="ASIN"] gets you an inline text link to the Amazon product page. [amazon bestseller="keywords"] displays the bestseller list. *In these examples, replace ASIN with the Amazon product ID number and keywords with the keywords you want for the bestseller list.*
• style="dark" will display a darker background instead of white, which is the default if you don’t specify a style. style="light" will also display a white background.
• title="Product Title" allows you to customize the product title displayed. If you don’t specify, AAWP will use the actual product title displayed on Amazon. AAWP may cut off the title to make it fit, which is also why I like specifying my own titles.
• template="vertical" changes the product box to be even more mobile-friendly and also removes any description.
• image="2" specifies which Amazon product image you want to display. This is the most important feature of the plugin, other than allowing you to show the price without getting into trouble. You replace the number with the image number you want to display, counting starting at one. Thus, if you like the third image displayed on Amazon, instead of the first, you write image="3".
• description_items="2" If you use the default template, AAWP will copy the description provided by Amazon and include it in the product box on your webpage. You can control how many description bullet points you want shown in AAWP’s settings. However, if you want to override this setting for a specific product box, description_items is how you control the number of bullet points.

AAWP’s pricing is very straightforward: the price you pay depends on how many WordPress sites you have. All plans include the same features and functionality, so you don’t have to waste time deciding if you need specific features or which plan you need to get. Note that you are buying a one-year license of the plug-in – you use the plug-in as a subscription service. There is no lifetime purchase option.
